MMA isn't a style or a technique

MMA isn't a fighting technique, it is a sport. Any fighting technique can be used that is within the rules (eye gouge, knees to grounded opponent, groin strike) so you can use boxing, karate, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, ect.

For self defense any techniques you know will help.

It is a sport...but any training is better than no training when it comes time to defend yourself.

Im not sure if you are a football player, but to me, MMA and Wrestling both helped me become a way better football player. If your a wrestler or a MMA fighter, eaither way your a badass.
