consider whether "Storm Warnings" could be written as a lyric??

The glass has been falling all the afternoon,
And knowing better than the instrument
What winds are walking overhead, what zone
Of grey unrest is moving across the land,
I leave the book upon a pillowed chair
And walk from window to closed window, watching
    Boughs strain against the sky

And think again, as often when the air
Moves inward toward a silent core of waiting,
How with a single purpose time has traveled
By secret currents of the undiscerned
Into this polar realm. Weather abroad
And weather in the heart alike come on
    Regardless of prediction.

    Between foreseeing and averting change
Lies all the mastery of elements
Which clocks and weatherglasses cannot alter.
Time in the hand is not control of time,
Nor shattered fragments of an instrument
A proof against the wind; the wind will rise,

We can only close the shutters.

I draw the curtains as the sky goes black
And set a match to candles sheathed in glass
Against the keyhole draught, the insistent whine
Of weather through the unsealed aperture.
    This is our sole defense against the season;
These are the things we have learned to do
    Who live in troubled regions.

Pretty good free verse poem, but when you say lyrics, I am assuming you mean song lyrics, and for that I must say no. I have at present over 40,000 songs on cd, tape, records, and mp3's. One thing they all have in common is that they rhyme. Sometimes quite badly, but thet get close. Make it rhyme and give it a musical cadence, and you might have a hit.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you wanted to know if "storm warnings" can be incorporated into lyrics, then the answer is yes. Here's one example of prose-style lyrics incorporating the phrase: On the radio, storm warnings abound. Mother earth is retaliating for humanity's destructive ways. On the other hand, if "Storm warnings" is the title of your poem and you want to know if it can be transformed into lyrics, then I would have to say no. This poem does not read like a poem - even for a prose-style poem it is a bit dry. It has a weather-forecast-news-report type of feel and reads that way. I don't mean for that to sound offensive - just being honest. However, the writing does convey beautiful imagery.
