“Father, come quickly!!” The cry of the small boy could be heard through the quickly fading light that preceded the night. “Quickly father!”
The rhythmic sound of heavy leather boots striking hard stone, worn smooth from years of use, washed over the child as he knelt over a small, motionless figure lying in the center of the main road leading from the small farming village, buried deep in the mountains.
“No Dalton!!” The man shouted at the boy through his heavy panting as he emerged from the dark alley and witnessed the scene before him. “Get back!” The boy quickly scrambled back from the dark lump. By now the man could see the grotesque form that lay in the road ahead of him. Roughly the size and shape of a large monkey, the creature was hairless and colored blacker than the blackest night. It was covered by a shroud composed of a sleek material that seemed to melt as you touched it. As the man drew nearer to the unearthly creature, it stirred and seemed to ripple between multiple planes of existence.
The boy scrambled back to his father as fast as his small form would allow him, stumbling slightly on the newer, rough stones that had been replaced during the last harvest.
The creature slowly picked its pathetic form up from the stones that had acquired an ice-like sheen, which was slowly spreading outwards in an ever growing circle. The grass next to the large pathway, previously swaying with the light wind, grew motionless wherever the aura from the creature touched it. The figure paused, then slowly began to raise its head.
The man cradled his son’s head as the boy trembled. They were both paralyzed with the overwhelming fear that had erupted within them as if it were part of their minds. The notion to flee never even came to their minds, never mind completing the action to follow.
As the creature finished lifting its head it faced the pair, with its eyes still closed. It slowly raised its eyelids, revealing glowing red eyes that pierced directly into the soul of the man. It opened its mouth to uncover wickedly sharp teeth just as black as its outer skin. Intelligence radiated from the creature. It grinned at the man, causing the man to tremble with terror.

The boy cried out in fear, tearing his father out of his stupor. He immediately grabbed his son and shoved him back towards the sturdy wooden cottages in the heart of the village.
“Run Dalton!” The man cried out. The boy began to stumble towards the faint forms of the nearby houses, only barely visible in the dim twilight.
The demon let out a piercing, soul-chilling cackle that enveloped the night, and gestured with its arm towards the man. Immediately, the man was enveloped in darkness, and the whole world faded from view.
