As long as you're able to see what's happening on your TV while you're using the PS3 then you shouldn't have any problem playing Blu-Ray on it. The only difference is that you won't be able to enjoy the high definition experience that Blu-Ray can deliver.

As for the surround sound: you should be able hook it up if your TV has A/V inputs.

Blu-ray is a HD format. So if your T.V has a HDMI slot then yes. However if it dosent it will not!

But with a ps3 it will work on any tv. however it will only play HD on a HD tv!

I have a funky TV I play blu ray movies on from my PS3. Of course, my HD TV definitely compliments blu ray much better, but yes you can play it. Now your surround sound...depends on the type of equipment you're working with.

It doesn't matter what T.V you have! If your playstation will play on it, then so will the blu-ray!

you need HD
you need HDMI you get best quality with plazma and you use the digital optical thingy to plug surround into it
