True Blu Ray DVD's should be full screen...Older DVD's that are not HD, may have the letterbox, but will play..

Properly formatted movies will be Original Aspect Ratio, which may be greater than 1.78 of typical wide screen TVs, meaning you will get bars on the top and bottom. To not get bars, or to minimize them, you need a 21:9 TV.
