Is Blu-ray zonal like normal DVDs? ?

DVDs in so called "zone 1" regions will not work in "zone 2" and vice versa, I would like to know if Blu-ray follows a similar structure or am I able to buy a Blu-ray disc anywhere in the world and bring it back to my house and should work fine?

My Blu-ray player is a PS3 bought in the USA if that is important information.....
