How many pictures will an 8GB SanDisk memory card hold on my camera?

I'm going to France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland next spring and I am expecting to take a lot of pictures. My camera is a Canon PowerShot A560(4x optical zoom and 7.1 megapixels) if that even matters. Is the 8GB too big? And I've also heard that some cameras aren't compatible with a large GB memory card is that true? And if so is my camera compatible with a memory card that size?

No, Its not big at all.
    The Bigger the better.
It will store about 4000 pictures or more.

Even if you don't take all those photos you can record video and the extra storage will come in handy.

8gb would hold around 4,000 pic's or more and yes its true that cameras have a limit usually its 2gb but the way you can tell if it can hold more is look for a symbol on the camera that says SDHC or HCSD for that model which i think the cutoff is 2gig. HC meaning high capacity Secure Digital

Check on the box and see what your camera is compatible with.

If you want to be able to take the maximum amount of pictures on one disk, then you must tune down the quality and size of the photos on the camera you are taking, it is a very powerful camera and the detail of those pictures will likely make each picture a few hundred kilobytes.

1 gb = 1000 kilobytes. Say a typical photo on your camera is 300 kilobytes. That's about 3 per gigabyte, and about 24 for the whole disk.

Your camera should allow you to tune the quality down so you can make each picture 50kb or even less possibly.

EDIT: Sorry, I completely forgot. 1 gb = 1000 megabytes! So that's 8,000 megabytes. You would be able to hold 8,000 pictures each a megabyte in size which should be more than enough..that's if you get the maximum amount of space on the card. I don't know what amount the camera will support.
