Anyone a telephone expert?

I just bought a new phone by Emerson for my house and wanted to know what the tone and pitch switch is for? I looked on the instruction sheet, but it didn't mention anything about it except it had a diagram showing where it's located on the phone. Also, how do I use the memo and store buttons?
I meant the tone and pulse switch, not pitch.
