Where did my soothe bell go? Pokemon Diamond?

This is the second time I've lost my soothe bell, and I'm just curious, does it automatically vanish after 1 use? Had my Riolu equipping one as i lvld it up, and my togepi held the other one..
Am I just dumb, or am I missing something?
