Sound driver for a Packard Bell Versa E400?

I have taken my old hard drive out of my PB Versa E400, replaced it with a WD 120Gb Hdd.I have put Windows Xp home edition on, but cannot get the sound to work.I have been to the Packard Bell website and downloaded 2 different drivers for the sound, neither work.Device manager still says there is a conflict with 'Multimedia Audio Controller' .I have tried to extract the driver from the recovery disk, but it won't work. I am totally at a loss.
Can anyone help? to all,
David Robinson
Regards and a Happy New Year

Is it an expansion (PCI) sound card? If so you can read the chip manufacturer info off the actual card and look on their website. If not, see if a BIOS update or Firmware update has been released for that particular machine. You could just buy another sound card. If you just need basic sound you could get a cheap one from a yard sale or craigslist.org. If you're looking for quality, try best buy.
