How to can sweet bell type peppers?

I have a bunch of fresh bell type sweet peppers. I want to can them with a sweet & sour type taste (like a gherkin). I am not interested in a relish type recipe. Can I use a gherkin type recipe & substitute peppers? Any ideas?
