    Will 17" 8 lug rims from a 2002 Ford fit a 8 lug wheel from a 1981 Ford F250?

Did the pattern change in 1998 so the new 8 lugs will not fit the older 8 lug wheels?? And if so, isn't 8 lugs, 8 lugs any way you slice it?

not necessarily. You need to check the spacing on the bolt pattern. If that matches up, then the wheel should fit.
