I want to get 17" rims to replace my 16" rims. Would i need to get a lower...

...profile tire or would 1 inch.... ? not make that much of difference? It is a Toyota Matrix with current stock rims at 16" (215/55/16)

Would it be okay with 17" rims (215/55/17) or would i have to get a lower tread tire as to not mess up my car??

Go to: tirerack.com and compare the rpm (revolutions per mile) of your present tires in the spec. page of any particular tire with a 17 inch tire with a lower *section number such as 215/*50/17 or a 215/*45/17. The whole object here is to preserve the accuracy of the speedometer. Clearance will not be a problem.
