I need help with my BLACKBERRY FLIP phone installing software?

Hi, I've never had a blackberry before. A friend of mine got an upgrade and gave me his old blackberry flip, I put my tmobile sim card in and i'm all set pretty much. I have the usb and everything but i'm not sure how to download the software onto my computer so i can download music and ringtones ect to the phone. Is there a website or something where i can down load, because just plugging it in to my computer isnt working?

    Thanks for your time!

Following these simple and mandatory steps:
Install BB desktop manager, the cd that shipped with your phone or download from www.blackberry.com/na . Click on BlackBerry Desktop Software. You can back-up your BB with desktop manager prior to updating your OS.

    1) close desktop manager
    2) disconnect from internet
    3) launch and install the new OS (on computer)
    4) Connect Blackberry
    5) delete vendor.xml (folder: c:\program files\common files\ research in motion\Apploader)
    6) launch loader.exe (folder: c:\program files\common files\ research in motion\Apploader)
    7) be patient, while booting! The process should take you between 30-60 minutes
