I have a blackberry pearl 8220 flip phone. When i do a back up it keeps it as an...

...IPD file??? What is this file? I do a back up quite often and it works but when i click onto the IPD file to try and open it to look at it it wont open!!! It asks me to search the internet to get a link to help open it. When i did this i had to download something and then it asked me to pay for doing so. Ended up removing it.

Is is suposed to be opened this file or will it just sit happily on my computer and be my backup for the phone if i lose info off of my phone? Many thanks to anyone if you can be bothered to asnswer this. :0) x

the IPD file is created by the Blackberry Desktop Manager and can only be read by that program. It is in a proprietary format and that is why you cannot read it. Just let it sit there until you need it to restore data to your phone, and the then the Blackberry Desktop Manager will use it to restore. Also, do a backup at least every two weeks for your own good.

IPD stands for ineractive pager data (backup) and it is a format that was designed by RIM, the developers of Blackberry, specifically for data backup and restores.
You might be interested to know that there is an application available at a smallish price which enable you to access this data through a computer. It is called ABC Blackberry Amber Converter.
