How To Bypass Pollution Pump on Ford Pickup?

I have a 1995 Ford F-150 with a 300 cu.in. (4.9L) engine. I would like to disconnect the pollution pump. Is it easier to use a shorter serpentine belt to bypass the pump or to remove the inside mechanism of the pump ? Will my gas mileage improve with the pump disconnected ?
