Where is there a hip club/lounge in NYC that offers live music?

I have been searching everywhere online to find the perfect place for my best friend and I to share our birthday. We both love live music but would prefer a place where we could dress up a little. We always do big blow outs for our birthday since it is a joint one & this year I am feeling pretty lost. There are so many places that I just cant find THE place. We both enjoy rock, pop, hip-hop, & reggae music.. pretty much anything to keep us dancing (preferably no house or techno music!!). We're in our 20s so we are also looking for a place that has a hip & cool environment. I would seriously appreciate your help!! Thanks so much :]
