Hi I'm looking for the name of a sci-fi movie from the 90s. It's about a man who is going to travel to another planet for some reason I can't remember. To travel to this other planet they shoot a laser beam across Earth to clear a path. Before the man leaves for space his friend gives him his "lucky ring". This ring ends up only giving his friend bad luck. I think he ends up crashing and he ends up all mutated and full of blood and his eye is popping out of the socket. After all this he still wears his friends ring. His friend (who gave him the ring) ends up traveling there too in order to look for his friend. The mutated guy stalks them and tries to kill them (I think) but ends up dying somehow I think he ends up in a pool of lava and as he sinks he puts up his hand and he's still wearing the "unlucky ring".
