Is Bittorrent safe to use and download?

Is the downloadable application for your PC,called Bittorrent,safe for me to download on my PC? I'm wondering so I can download it after school so I can download Lucius like I said in one of my earlier questions.

Its not so much the program that is unsafe, but the files that you load in it. I would make sure that you have a virus protection program on your computer, then install it and scan whatever it is that you download from it before you go and install it on your computer.
