if i have a telus iphone, that came from the TELUS STORE, would i still

have to unlock it to make it prepaid? I have a telus iphone that i bought from the telus store, i had it on a contract, but then i disconnected it.... it IS a TELUS phone and my telus sim card is still in it, would i have to unlock it before making it 'pay as you go' or would it work if i just set up a texting plan, and then add the telus money on it? i dont see why i would have to unlock it because it was naturally a telus phone to begin with.
