My mom's Panasonic DVD player has a USB drive, and the manual says it should be able to view certain kinds of media. MP3s are no problem, but I can burn CDs for that and play them continuously. It doesn't seem to detect any video format other than AVI, but even when I convert videos to that format, it says it can't play them. I guess the codec in use for the website I'm using is newer than the ones being used by the player. It's a DMR-EZ48V if that helps.
