What is best option for us - DVD or Blu-Ray Recorder?
Have a Panasonic Viera LCD (TH-L32X10A) digital television, connected to a LG DVD player and also a LG VHS recorder/player. Currently we can only record analogue but not digital programs.

Have seen a Panasonic Viera cast (unsure what this "Cast" means) DVD Recorder/player for $635 online or $700 AUS in Harvey Norman's latest store catalogue (model DMR-XW380), twin HD tuner, 175 hours of HD quality that can be recorded onto 250 GB HDD in HM mode.

Newer model (DMR-XW480) has double : (350 hours) - 500 GB HDD in HM mode. Online cost is $790 AUS.

Would we still be able to record/watch DVD's on a Blu-Ray Recorder?

Have seen a Panasonic Blu-Ray Recorder for $999 AUS (250 GB) Model DMRBW780 or $1,196 AUS (500 GB) for Model DMRBW880, advertised by Harvey Norman.

We are not interested in 3D technology. We have quite a large DVD (and VHS) collection we wish to retain. Do not wish to pay for technology that we would not need, although prefer Panasonic Viera for compatibility would like to find a suitable reasonably priced option.

Any advice/suggestions appreciated.
