dvd burning disks????

I have burned a home film of me onto a DVD.My mum said that it will not play on the computer or our new blue ray and multi region dvd player. Do I need specific dvd player to play my films that I burned on to a disk. We used another dvd player to burn disks but it broke so that is why we got a multi region dvd player and a blue ray player. The disks I used are dvd-rw.

Players will play certain formats of movies. What format did you use?

My Sony Blu-ray will not play .avi, but my Toshiba DVD player will. DVD-RW can be flaky in some players. You need to "finalize" the disk.
