Booting Ubuntu from a flash drive on a Dell OPTIPLEX GX240?

I have a Dell OPTIPLEX GX240, and the motherboard shows no hard drive in the BIOS, no matter what HDD is attached to the IDE. I'm currently using it while running off of the Ubuntu Live CD that i ordered. I installed Ubuntu onto a Cruzer Micro 4GB USB Flash Drive, and when i search the BIOS, it doesn't seem to be detected. I can't force the computer to boot from this flash drive, and i don't have an external hard drive to try it from. Is there some way to force a computer's BIOS to recognized an attached device?

By the way, should i maybe try plugging the drive in another slot? I know the USB port i'm currently using works, as i installed it using this computer, and it was plugged up exactly as it is now.

Any ideas i could try would be appreciated.
Any that actually WORK will get best answer.
