I have a Mercedez ML320, when the brake is not depressed the brake light is on, and when the brake is depressed the brake light is off. Do i need to replace the switch or is it installed incorrectly?

My Ml320 is leaking puddles of oil I think from the top part of the engine, maybe the oil filter or something. 112,000 miles and very few problems until this major one. I have checked the filter and it is tight and all o rings are on. I can not tell where it is coming from.
What is the white sludge build up on the the motor oil cap of a 2002 ML320? Otherwise engine is running well, and there is no anti freeze mixing with the motor oil.
