camping or hiking

Hey guys, I live in Rhonert Park and i was going to spend a week off camping/hiking. My plan was to pack camping equipment and see if i can find a spot to hike that also allows camping (for free); hike all day, then just set up a tent and enjoy scenario. I know that may be too much to ask for...

Waterproof, Bright beam, durable, reasonable battery life?

I want to hike the Appalachian Trail but carrying this thing in a pack doesn't seem feasible.

Each summer, i go to this summer camp and the scenery there is amazing however, the best places are found on the hike, which is pretty vigorous and intense I would like to know your guys' opinion on whether or not i should bring a DSLR on the hike, although i am a bit worried that it might bump...

My fiance and I would like to register for camping/hiking equipment for our wedding, but can't find a good place that has a registry. We looked at Gander Mountain and they don't have a registry. Any suggestions?

And what do you think you are most likely to not think of till your actually camping

so my friends and i are interested in going on a camping/hiking trip for spring break this year. we're from iowa and we were thinking about south dakota (1st choice) or anywhere not too far away...possibly colorado? anyway, we were just looking to see if anyone had any good camping experiences...
