I don't consider it rude at all. In many cultures it is actually rude to make direct eye contact. It's up to you if you want to make eye contact or not.

It will only work if it says both 2D and 3D on the same disk. The menu option will let you pick which one. Plus you will need a Blu ray player regardless. If it only says 3D it will only work on a 3D player.
