I am considering purchasing a car with 140,000 miles on it. What should I be looking for as far as things that will cause a large problem in the future?

Two of my three 12v cigarette adapter electrical ports (never found out an official name for them) are dead. I am afraid I shorted out one of them, and the other never worked. It is a 1994 Cevy S10 Pickup.
