Wing chun, tai chi or muay Thai?

Well if you want to look at kung fu in the true sense of the word, it just means "ability". In another abstract sense it can be used to refer to a fighting system or "fist way". So Muay Thai would be referred to as "Thai Kuen" or "Thai Fist". It's a type of "kung fu" of the Thais. If you...

what styles of kungfu / martial art are similar to wing chun?

I don't know how anyone would say Jeet Kune Do or say they instruct JKD and not know it isn't even a martial art. JKD is an eclectic approach to martial arts training and concepts. Its core curriculum consists of training in Wing Chun but that doesn't make JKD a system similar to it anymore...

Why won't anyone take Karate, Taekwondo or Japanese Ju-Jutsu to the Octagon?

Machida's fighting strategy has point sparring karate written all over it and he was pretty effective with that. Well that is until Shogun figured out how to stop him... You won't really find JJJ in the Octagon, despite some players possessing training in it (i.e. Carlos Newton). Still that...

whats the point in learning katas in karate..my black belt mate has just got...

I love how the minute something goes wrong, you finger the blame immediately on the entire art itself and call it stupid. Perhaps your friend's instructor was lousy but that's just an individual case. Kata is also meant as a method of learning and self-evaluation. A way of imparting core...

What's the weakest martial art form?

There are no weak forms, only weak individuals. I think you chose wrong. I strongly encourage you to go up against an accomplished karateka. You will quickly find out just how "weak" karate is.

MMA isn't considered to be a technique of any sort. It's a sport fighting event.

Which type of martial arts should I join if I can kick really really

Go seek some anger management because you can't bring that into the school. That being said, a very popular kicking-oriented style that may fit you is Tae Kwon Do. High kicks and spectacular aerial techniques are the trademarks of TKD. As for being a good fighter, that's going to take experience.

why should ufc be banned because of violence?

Next time they say something is TOO violent, tell them to turn on the evening news, open a newspaper, go to the movies, look at other events like WWE or the greatest American pasttime - football. Or what about boxing? Two men forced to stand up and exchange punches to the head isn't violent...

Judo/BJJ vs MMA in a street fight?

I don't know why you need to feel it's a style vs. style clash when clearly it's just a personal issue. Wannabe MMAers are just that, wannabes. You know they talk fluff, they have nothing inside, so what are worried about? Your confidence and extensive training speaks for itself and you...

Why dont combat ki practioners dominate the ufc?

"Combat Ki" is just Chinese Chi Gung. I've seen some of these demos and they look like they're taking full power shots to the jaw, throat and groin. Don't know how they do it, though the human body is capable of some crazy feats sometimes. It's also probably due to the mind over matter...

    MMA question. Skills I learn...?

Hey welcome to the club. Who has 100% photographic memory anyway, right? As long as you're not walking out of there saying "duh, what just happened" you're fine. If you retain any of the knowledge you gained then you're good to go. Things like techniques are better practiced than remembered...

best guard in mma who ya think?

Fabiano Iha.... Eddie bravo once said that Fabiano Iha had "one hell of an armbar from the guard" and that if you're in his guard, "it's kind of like you were getting mounted." 6 out of Iha's 9 wins were from armbars from the guard. By gum, I think eddie bravo is right....

How do we get Yahoo to add an MMA focus catagory?

A better question would be how to get a griefer to submit his questions directly to Yahoo instead of ranting in the forum. Secondly, MMA fighting consists of traditional fighting arts so the distinction is really in your mind. Thirdly, there are plenty of MMA discussion sites out there if you...

    a poll about the UFC..?

I wouldn't say he's completely nothing. The guy's obviously got enough training to cross over from his wwe days. While couture is a favorite and sacred cow in the ufc world, let's not forget he was old and out of shape when lesnar beat him. Against serious competition, I still have doubts...

what is that song when bj penn comes onto ufc primetime?

He uses two popular Hawaiian ones. One is "Hawaii 78" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (aka Bruddah IZ) and the other is also by him called "E Ala E". "E Ala E" is the one with the thumping rhythm line.
