The video quality will not be noticeable going thru the AVR. It's fine. I assume you are doing this to play audio in surround sound so you need to do this anyway. You can also go DVD to projector via HDMI and DVD to AVR via optical as an alternative if you have it available
Don't understand your question. Are you trying to use your DVD player as an amplifier by connecting other devices to it? You can't because it has no inputs. Only DVD's will give you surround sound
Blu-ray player & DVD player are 2 totally different things. Blu-ray is high definition while DVD is standard definition. To watch HD you also need a HDTV but sounds like you don't have one. If the bluray has no composite output (red, white, yellow) then there is no way to hook it up
Not sure what kind of cable box you have and what connections it has. If it's HD then connect using HDMI or component cables to the TV. If it's SD connect using composite to the TV.
Connect the bluray to the TV via HDMI
Connect TV to the soundbar via optical

Netflix & Hulu are not the same as cable TV. You can't substitute one for the other. You can cancel DirecTV anytime you want but don't expect to get the same programming and the ability to watch live TV.
