The pushrod for the clutch is bent. Is this something I can just take out and replace from the outside of the engine, so I don't have to tear down the entire engine?

Definetly. I would splice into the negative and positive battery terminals while they are off of the battery so that you don't cause a surge and blow fuses (etc.)and then I would re attach them to the battery post. I used to do that stuff all the time. My ford ranger was like a rolling light show
