There's nothing "wrong" with it. Verizon just won''t let the phone transfer files that large. Its a way of them trying to get their customers to purchase songs, ringtones, and wallpapers through them.
You can re-pair it to the new phone by putting the headset into discovery mode. You can usually do this by holding the power button down on the headset until the power LED flashes and then have the phone look for it.

I would recommend Motorola Phone Tools v5. Update your drivers and download that program from Motorola's website(its not free) and it should work for you.

Not only would I survive, I would thrive. I was about your age (I assume you are a teenager, if your not, Sorry), but I had none of those things, except TV and even then I grew up without cable. I was not bored, I just read a lot. Reading is a lost art and I wish kids today would do more of it.
You are correct on the format being MP3 but the only information that I have uncovered on your problem is to make sure you put the music in the proper folder, My_Music. Other than that the phone may be defective. That particular model has had its share of problems.
